Our massive bed meant we had a great sleep and social distancing was managed perfectly. Our room was a Cedar Lodge Suite with a balcony and this was wonderful to make use of the fine weather. This is the ninth time we have stayed at the hotel and we still love it. Overall this is a beautiful building with wonderfully attentive staff, but take that away and it is just like any other upmarket chain hotel, albeit double the price. I had breakfast included in my rate but had I paid the £22 charge listed on the menu I wouldn’t have felt I had gotten value for money. Like everywhere else in the hotel the service was brilliant but my food was a tad bland and uninspiring. The selection was rather limited, especially the hot options. My other disappointment came at breakfast time. I had planned to spend the evening in the spa but left after an hour or so. The pool/jacuzzi area was pretty but lacked any sort of ambiance and it wasn’t a particularly relaxing atmosphere. I’m sure a male employee wouldn’t be allowed to walk around the female section. I also wasn’t comfortable with the female attendants continually walking around the male changing area. It was just like the locker room at my gym at home. I appreciated having separate steam/sauna in the changing rooms however these were incredibly small and didn’t feature any smell infusions or niche features. There was no fresh fruit or snacks offered which I find is normally standard in 5* spas. Firstly the charge just to access the wet facilities seems rather greedy considering the cost of the room for the night. I chose this hotel mainly due to the spa, which unfortunately was rather underwhelming. Their small touches and proactive, discreet service went a long way in helping me relax and indulge. I was warmly greeted by every staff member I came across and made to feel welcome and valued. The staff are by far what made my visit to Alexander House. My luxury room was spacious, clean and tastefully decorated, with a gorgeous marble bathroom and all of the amenities you could ever want. There is no denying that the building and grounds of this hotel are beautiful and it is certainly an escape from everyday life. Ironically, the one person who normally has no skin issues at all! Nevertheless, we still had a wonderful time and look forward to returning again in the near future. Thirdly, one of the four unfortunately had an allergic reaction to the Oskia products. Secondly, we compared our massages and discovered that some of us had foot massages with balm and eucalyptus to breathe in at the start, but not all of us. Firstly, all of us would have preferred extra cushioning when lying face down, as the peep hole was small and dug into our faces. A few observations, which we hope will help. Four of us also enjoyed attending the skincare class. The massages we all had were marvelous and timed to enable us to enjoy all the pools, steam room and sauna, with relaxation in your peaceful lounge afterwards and before our delicious tea. This was a special spa day for our family as a precursor to our daughter and her fiancé’s impending nuptials.
